How proof is filed
Your insurer files proof with FMCSA and the policy carries the MCS-90 endorsement (387.15). The federal minimum covers public liability only, not cargo or your own truck. Brokers need a $75,000 surety bond or trust fund (387.307).
What customers usually ask for
Brokers and shippers often require higher liability and cargo coverage in their contracts. Ask for their requirements before you buy, and see our insurance comparison.

FAQ
Does the minimum include cargo insurance?
No. Federal rules for general freight carriers set public liability minimums; cargo coverage is usually a contract requirement.
What is the MCS-90?
An endorsement guaranteeing payment to the public up to the federal minimum, even if the policy otherwise would not pay.
